D-Tech systems are written from the users operational procedures.
Each application has its own starting point.
Freight Forwarders will usually have shipments delivered to a warehouse which
could be in house, off site or outside contracted. In any case, cargo is
delivered to that location and a warehouse receipt is generated. In the case
of full container loads, cargo is loaded at the shipper/supplier site and
delivered directly to the pier and a reference number is issued.
Freight Brokers, acting as representatives for overseas consignees, will usually
receive information from the consignee or the shipper as a purchase order on a
domestic supplier.
Warehouse Storage and Transfer operators will receive information from their clients
advising of incoming loads which are received, inventoried, and ultimately shipped
to the clients customers.
Hazardous Material specialists will normally be contacted by shippers who are moving
goods that require special handling, packing and documentation.
Local Cartage truckers will get calls from shippers or other local entities to move
freight from one local location to another.
Importers will usually be advised by international carriers or shipper clients that
freight is being sent to them or has arrived for their account.
In each of these cases, the introductory program for the application requires that
the proper information be entered into the system, a reference number assigned
for subsequent handling and the information be printed, e-mailed or otherwise
transmitted to the interested parties.
